Missed Connections

Sophie Blackall illustrates the "Missed Connections" section of Craigslist.
"Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down."

Cardon Copy

"Cardon Copy take fliers they find on the street, re-design them and hang the new fliers in place of the old ones. They would either get ripped down a lot less often, or a lot more."

A 2 Hour Temporary Park

REBAR's annual Park(ing) Day was this last Friday (Sept. 18, 2009)
"Originally created by Rebar, San Francisco art and design collective, PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks."

Rope in Space by Ars Electronica Futurelab
This interactive installation makes it possible to play the game ‘Rope in Space’ with an opponent who is at another location. One end of the rope is in Linz, the other end is in Vienna. The opponent can be seen on a screen and you are able to communicate with them. If there is no opponent at the other location you can also play with the computer.

Urban Putt Putt

"The Putting Lot is Putting Lot is a nine-hole miniature-golf course in [Bushwick] Brooklyn. Each hole is designed by a different team of artists and architects around themes of urban sustainability. Playing a round at the lot is an interactive experience, requiring golfers to step inside the artist’s visions and the ideas that have inspired them. Through the transformation of the lot, the construction of the holes, and a series of events held in the public area, we hope to provide a forum for discussing urban sustainability in a new context."
